Cluster 1

Applying

The route, the centres that serve Vadodara, and how long the whole journey realistically takes.

How do I apply for an Indian passport?
Register on the Passport Seva portal (passportindia.gov.in) or the mPassport Seva app, fill the fresh or reissue application, pay the fee online, book a slot at a Passport Seva Kendra or POPSK, and attend in person with originals and self-attested copies. Police verification follows where applicable, and the passport arrives by Speed Post. Step-by-step detail is on our fresh passport page.
Can I apply for a passport offline?
You can fill the downloadable e-Form offline and upload it, but the application itself is submitted through the portal, online fee payment is mandatory for booking the appointment, and the in-person PSK visit cannot be skipped. There is no fully offline route — which is exactly where our ₹499 assistance helps applicants who are not comfortable online.
Where do Vadodara applicants go for their appointment?
PSK Vadodara at Aditviya Complex, Ground Floor, behind Arpan Complex, Delux Cross Road, Nizampura, Vadodara 390002, which falls under the Regional Passport Office, Ahmedabad. Nearby POPSKs include Anand, Bharuch, Godhra, Chhota Udaipur, Nadiad and Dahod. Confirm slot timings on the portal when booking — our appointment page has the practical detail.
How long does it take to get a passport?
Indicatively: about 7–10 working days after the appointment where no pre-police-verification is needed, two weeks to 30–45 days where pre-PV applies, and dispatch within roughly 1–3 working days for Tatkal. Printing and Speed Post delivery add about 3–7 working days. All timelines vary; none are guaranteed. Follow your own file via our tracking guidance.
Cluster 2

Fees

All figures follow the revised schedule effective 1 July 2026 — final confirmation always belongs to the official fee calculator.

What does a passport cost in 2026?
From 1 July 2026, a 36-page adult passport costs ₹2,500 normal or ₹5,000 Tatkal, and 60 pages ₹3,500 or ₹6,000. A minor's 36-page booklet is ₹1,750 or ₹4,250. Lost or damaged replacements cost more. The full tables are on our fees page; confirm your exact figure on the official fee calculator before paying.
Why do different websites show different passport fees?
Fees were revised on 1 July 2026 for the first time since 2012, and many aggregator sites still display the old schedule. Trust only the official fee calculator on passportindia.gov.in — the payment screen amount is what governs.
How much extra does Tatkal cost, and is it worth it?
The revised Tatkal figures work out to the normal fee plus ₹2,500. It is worth it when you genuinely need dispatch within days and your documents meet Tatkal's stricter requirements — otherwise the premium is not refunded if the application is downgraded to normal. Weigh it on our Tatkal page.
What does Harsiddhi Services charge for passport assistance?
A flat professional fee of ₹499, covering document verification, form filling, payment and appointment booking assistance, and status guidance afterwards. Government fees are always separate, paid on the official portal against your own application, and shown to you before you confirm. Full detail on the passport pricing page.
Cluster 3

Documents

What to gather, what self-attestation means, and which annexure applies to which situation.

Which documents does a fresh adult passport need?
One proof of present address and one proof of date of birth, each from the approved lists — Aadhaar, voter ID, utility bills, bank passbook and others for address; birth certificate, school certificate, PAN, Aadhaar and others for DOB. Carry originals plus one set of self-attested photocopies. The full lists per scenario are on our documents page; confirm your exact case on the official Document Advisor.
Is a birth certificate mandatory for a passport?
No. Since the 2016 rules amendment, a wider list of DOB proofs applies — school leaving or matriculation certificate, PAN, Aadhaar, driving licence, voter ID, LIC policy bond or service records — regardless of when you were born.
What are the passport annexures everyone mentions?
Standard declaration formats prescribed by Passport Seva: Annexure D is parental consent for minors, C its substitute where one parent's consent is unavailable, F the affidavit for lost or damaged passports, J the joint declaration for marriage name changes, and G/H the NOC or prior intimation for government employees. Our annexures explainer decodes each; specimens are on the official portal.
Do I submit originals or photocopies?
Carry both: originals for scanning and return at the counter, plus one set of self-attested photocopies that stays with the file. Exceptions filed in original are the old passport in reissue cases, the police report for lost passports, and sworn annexures.
Cluster 4

Appointments & the PSK

Booking, rescheduling limits, and what actually happens once your token is called.

How do I book a PSK appointment?
After submitting the application, pay the fee online — payment is mandatory before booking — then choose an available slot at a PSK or POPSK under your Regional Passport Office. Slot availability varies by centre and season, so have your documents ready before you start. Our appointment booking page walks through it.
What happens inside the PSK on appointment day?
Token issue, then three zones: Zone A, where a Citizen Service Executive scans documents and captures your photo and biometrics; Zone B, the Verification Officer; and Zone C, the Granting Officer who takes the decision on your file. Most visits take a couple of hours.
Can I reschedule my appointment?
Yes, but only a limited number of times before the application lapses — historically two reschedules within a year; confirm the current limit on the portal. Treat the slot as firm and keep it.
What should I carry on appointment day?
The Application Reference Number receipt or appointment confirmation (the ARN SMS is generally accepted as proof — confirm on the portal), every original document your case needs, and one set of self-attested photocopies. Arriving without one paper usually means rebooking — one more reason we double-check files the day before.
Cluster 5

Police verification

The stage applicants control least — and can still prepare for best.

Will the police visit my home?
For most fresh applications, yes — pre-issue verification at your present address is the default. Many reissue cases with clean records get post-issue verification or none, and Tatkal is typically verified after the passport is issued. Your case's mode is decided by the passport office, not chosen by you. The full picture is on our police verification page.
How long does police verification take?
Typically one to three weeks, and faster in states using the mPassport Police app — but it is the most variable stage of the whole process. Being reachable, present at your declared address and ready with documents is the best way to keep it short.
What if the police report is adverse?
An adverse or incomplete report — applicant not found, address not matching, unsupportive statements — stalls or sinks the application and is hard to unwind afterwards. If it happens, respond to the RPO's communication precisely; better, prevent it with an accurate address and a prepared household. See rejection reasons for the full prevention list.
Cluster 6

Corrections & reissue

Name, address and date-of-birth changes all travel the same road: a reissue with the right supporting document.

What is the difference between renewal and reissue?
In practice, nothing — what people call renewal, the portal calls "Re-issue of Passport". You get a fresh booklet with new validity, the old passport is cancelled and returned, and the full reissue fee applies. There is no extension or revalidation of an existing booklet. Details on the renewal page and in our renewal vs reissue explainer.
How do I change my name in the passport after marriage?
Apply for reissue with your marriage certificate, or Annexure J — a joint declaration by husband and wife with a joint photograph. A Gazette notification is generally not required for a marriage surname change; other name changes follow the affidavit, newspaper and Gazette route covered on our passport name change page.
How do I change the address in my passport?
Through a reissue, with one proof of the new present address and copies of the old passport — the process is on our address change page. Fresh police verification at the new address is typically part of it. There is no sticker or endorsement route for changing particulars on an existing booklet.
Can I correct my date of birth in the passport?
Yes, via reissue with documentary proof of the correct date — see the DOB correction page. Small corrections supported by a birth certificate or school records are routine; substantial changes — commonly described as more than two years — may need a court order, and RPOs apply these cases strictly. Take advice before filing.
My passport is lost. What do I do first?
File a police report immediately — the original FIR or complaint is part of the replacement application — then apply for reissue in the lost category with Annexure F, fresh proofs, and old passport copies if you have them. Start with our lost passport page; a torn or soaked booklet still in your possession follows the damaged passport route instead, without the police report.
Cluster 7

Minors & special cases

Children's passports, parental consent, ECR status and the questions marriage raises.

What documents does a child's passport need?
The minor's DOB proof, address proof in the parents' name, parents' passport copies if held, and Annexure D signed by both parents in the standard case. A minor's passport is valid five years or until age 18, whichever comes first. The minor passport page covers photos, fees and the 15–18 option.
Do both parents have to consent for a minor's passport?
In the standard case, yes, via Annexure D. Where one parent's consent cannot be obtained — single parent, separation, a parent abroad — Annexure C applies instead, and in custody disputes court orders control. A single mother can apply with her name alone; the father's name is not mandatory.
What are ECR and Non-ECR status?
ECR (Emigration Check Required) passports need Protector of Emigrants clearance before taking up employment in the notified ECR countries; it does not restrict tourist travel. Non-ECR goes to matriculates, graduates, taxpayers, persons over 50, minors and other categories. Converting ECR to Non-ECR requires a reissue with proof of eligibility — our ECR vs ECNR explainer has the detail.
Is my passport still valid if I marry but do not change my name?
Yes. Changing your name or surname after marriage is optional, not a legal requirement — a passport in the maiden name remains fully valid. Update it only if you want your documents to carry the married name consistently; our passport after marriage guide weighs the choice.
