Passport pricing: ₹499 to us, the rest to the government

Our help with your passport application costs a flat ₹499. The government's own fee is separate and paid to the Ministry of External Affairs. Below is the full official fee table effective 1 July 2026, so you can see exactly where every rupee goes.

What the flat ₹499 covers

Applying for a passport is not hard, but it is unforgiving of small mistakes — a wrong category, a document that is not on the approved list, an address proof that does not match. A rejected or delayed application costs you far more than any fee. Our ₹499 buys the preparation that keeps that from happening.

For that single flat fee we help you choose the correct application type (fresh, reissue, correction), fill the Passport Seva form accurately, check your documents against the official list for your exact case, guide the mandatory online fee payment and appointment booking, and brief you on what to carry to the passport centre so one visit is enough. Passports themselves are issued solely by the Ministry of External Affairs through Passport Seva — we are a documentation-assistance centre, not a government body, and we do not influence the decision.

Two bills, kept separate

You pay us ₹499 for the help. You pay the government its own fee for the passport, online, through the official portal. We never fold the government fee into ours or add a markup on it. See how this fits our wider approach on the all-pricing page.

Government fees

The official fee tables (w.e.f. 1 July 2026)

These are the government's fees, revised by the Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026 with effect from 1 July 2026 — the first revision in about 14 years. They are paid to the government, not to us. Because the change is recent, many other websites still show the old, lower amounts; the figures here reflect the current schedule.

Adults (18+) — fresh passport or reissue, 10-year validity

BookletNormalTatkal
36 pages₹2,500₹5,000
60 pages₹3,500₹6,000

Minors (below 18) — validity 5 years or until age 18

BookletNormalTatkal
36 pages₹1,750₹4,250

Minors aged 15–18 may instead apply for a full 10-year passport at the adult fee. The 60-page minor fee is not separately published in our sources — confirm it on the official calculator.

Lost, stolen or damaged passport (replacement)

CategoryNormalTatkal
Adult, 36 pages₹5,000₹7,500
Adult, 60 pages₹6,000₹8,500
Minor₹4,250₹6,750

A name change, address change or date-of-birth correction is processed as a reissue and carries the ordinary reissue fee for the relevant category above. The complete official fee reference, with every category, is on the passport fees page.

Tatkal & discounts

Tatkal, discounts and other government fees

  • Tatkal surcharge. Under the July-2026 schedule, Tatkal is consistently the normal fee plus ₹2,500. In practice the normal-category amount is paid online at booking and the Tatkal difference at the passport centre once the request is accepted — confirm the current mechanics on the portal. A major name-change case may not be eligible for Tatkal.
  • Concession for children and seniors. A 10% discount continues on the normal fee for fresh applications for children up to 8 years and senior citizens above 60. Conditions apply — check the exact discounted figure on the official calculator.
  • Police Clearance Certificate (PCC). ₹750 under the revised schedule.
  • Payment. Online payment is mandatory to book an appointment — card, net banking, SBI challan or wallet. Government fees are generally non-refundable even if an application is rejected; confirm on the official FAQ.

Do not copy old fees from other sites

If a page quotes ₹1,500 for a fresh 36-page adult passport, or ₹3,500 for adult Tatkal, it is showing pre-July-2026 amounts and is out of date. Trust the official calculator over any third-party figure, including ours.

Verify before you pay

Always confirm on the official calculator

We keep this page current, but the only figure that truly governs is the one the government shows you at the moment you pay. Before paying any passport fee, check it on the official Passport Seva fee calculator at passportindia.gov.in. It reflects your exact category, booklet size and Tatkal choice.

If you would like us to handle the whole application, we will tell you the government fee your case attracts, add our flat ₹499, and give you a clear combined figure before you commit. To understand the wider process and documents first, start with our passport services hub, the fresh passport guide or the document checklist. If your case needs a gazette name change before the passport, that is a separate service we also handle — see gazette name change.

Before you decide

The bottom line

Here is the honest bottom line: you can do this yourself, and this page shows you how. But if you want it done in one clean pass — correct documents, correct drafting, no bounced applications — that is exactly what we sell, at a fixed fee you will see in writing before you commit.

FAQs

Passport pricing questions, answered straight

What does the ₹499 passport fee cover?
It is our flat professional fee for helping you apply: choosing the right category, filling the Passport Seva form correctly, checking your documents against the official list, guiding the fee payment and appointment booking, and preparing you for the visit to the passport centre. The government fee is separate and paid to the Ministry of External Affairs.
Is the government passport fee included in ₹499?
No. The government fee — ranging from ₹1,750 to ₹8,500 depending on category, booklet size and Tatkal — is paid to the government through the official portal and is entirely separate from our ₹499. We never mix the two.
Why do other sites show lower passport fees like ₹1,500?
Because passport fees were revised on 1 July 2026 for the first time in about 14 years, and many aggregator and bank pages still display the old pre-July-2026 amounts. If a page quotes ₹1,500 for a fresh 36-page adult passport, it is out of date. The figures on this page reflect the current schedule.
How much is the Tatkal passport fee?
Under the July-2026 schedule, Tatkal is the normal fee plus ₹2,500 — for example ₹5,000 for a fresh 36-page adult passport versus ₹2,500 normal. Major name-change cases may not be eligible for Tatkal. Always confirm the exact figure on the official fee calculator before paying.
Do I pay the government fee to you or online?
Online payment is mandatory to book a passport appointment. You can pay it yourself on the Passport Seva portal, or we guide you through the payment step. Either way, the government fee reaches the government directly — only our ₹499 comes to us.
Is the ₹499 the same for fresh, renewal and corrections?
The flat ₹499 professional fee covers standard passport assistance — fresh, reissue or renewal, and common corrections. Complex cases, such as a major name change needing a gazette first, may involve additional services which we quote separately before starting.
Are children and senior citizens charged less?
The government offers a 10% discount on the normal fee for fresh applications for children up to 8 years and senior citizens above 60. Our ₹499 professional fee is unchanged. Confirm the exact discounted government fee on the official calculator, as conditions apply.
Is the government fee refundable if the passport is refused?
Government passport fees are generally non-refundable even if an application is rejected — confirm the current position on the official FAQ. Our role is to minimise that risk by getting your documents and category right before you pay. Our ₹499 covers that preparation work.
