What changed on 1 July 2026 — and why old figures are everywhere
The Ministry of External Affairs notified the Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026 on 25 June 2026, revising passport fees with effect from 1 July 2026. It was the first fee revision in roughly fourteen years — the previous schedule dated back to 2012 — which is precisely why so many aggregator websites, fee guides and even bank pages still display the old amounts. If a page quotes ₹1,500 for a fresh 36-page adult passport, it is out of date.
Two points of timing matter. The new fees apply to applications submitted on or after 1 July 2026, regardless of when the appointment was booked. And whatever any third-party page says — including this one — the figure that governs is the one shown by the official fee calculator on passportindia.gov.in at the moment you pay.
How to read the tables below
All figures are government fees w.e.f. 1 July 2026 — always confirm on the official fee calculator before paying. They are payable to the government, not to us. Our professional fee is a separate flat ₹499, covered further down this page and never mixed into these amounts.

Adults (18+) — fresh passport or reissue, 10-year validity

Whether you are applying for the first time or renewing, the fee is the same — a renewal is formally a reissue with a fresh booklet.
Minors (below 18) — validity 5 years or until age 18

Minors aged 15–18 may instead opt for a full 10-year-validity passport at the adult fee — often better value if the booklet would otherwise expire at 18 anyway. Lost, stolen or damaged passport — replacement

Replacement fees are deliberately higher than ordinary reissue. If your booklet still exists but is torn or water-damaged, the damaged passport route applies; if it is gone, start with the police report — see the lost passport page.

A 10% discount on the normal fee continues for fresh applications (not reissues) for children up to 8 years and senior citizens above 60 — the calculator applies the exact conditions, so verify your entitlement there rather than assuming it.
The Tatkal surcharge, and how it is collected
Across the published categories, the Tatkal figure works out to the normal fee plus ₹2,500 — ₹2,500 becomes ₹5,000, ₹3,500 becomes ₹6,000, ₹1,750 becomes ₹4,250, and the lost/damaged figures follow the same pattern. Before 1 July 2026 the premium was ₹2,000, so budget the new gap when comparing.
On collection mechanics, the long-standing practice has been that you pay the normal-category fee online when booking, and the Tatkal difference is collected at the PSK once your Tatkal request is accepted — confirm the current process on the portal when you book, as payment flows do change. Two cautions worth the money they save:
- The Tatkal premium is treated as non-refundable if your application is downgraded to normal processing — for instance, when the Tatkal document requirement is not met. Confirm the current refund position on the official FAQ.

The government fee is always paid on the official portal against your own application — you see the amount on the payment screen before confirming, and we never quote a single "all-inclusive" figure that hides it. What our fee does not buy
No discount on government fees, no priority inside Passport Seva, and no influence over the outcome — passports are issued solely by the passport authority, and approval rests with it alone. Our fee buys careful preparation, which in our experience is what actually shortens the road. Anyone who quotes a fee "including approval" should worry you.
How the government fee is paid
Online payment is mandatory to book a PSK/POPSK appointment — there is no pay-at-the-counter option for the base fee. Modes that have been accepted on the portal include:
- Credit or debit card (Visa/MasterCard)
- SBI internet banking, and partner banks routed through it
- SBI bank challan (cash deposit at a branch, with a processing lag before booking)
- SBI wallet
Check the live payment screen for the current list — accepted modes change, and we have not been able to confirm every option against the portal at the time of writing. If a card payment fails or a challan takes time to reflect, do not pay twice; the amount usually reconciles against your Application Reference Number. Stuck at the payment step?
