GST registration documents: the full list, by entity type
Half the delays in GST registration come down to a document that was missing, mismatched or in the wrong name. This checklist sets out exactly what a proprietor, a partnership, an LLP and a company each need — plus the place-of-business and bank rules that trip people up — so your application goes in complete the first time.

Every application shares a core set
Whatever your business structure, GST registration rests on the same foundation: identity proof, a photo, proof of where you operate, and bank proof. On top of that base, each entity type adds documents specific to how it is constituted — a partnership deed for a firm, incorporation papers and a digital signature for a company, and so on.
Registration itself carries no government fee; the only cost is professional help if you choose it. The most valuable thing you can do before applying is get every name and address to match across your documents, because a mismatch is the leading cause of an officer query. This page lays out the full list by entity, the two proofs that cause the most trouble, and the mistakes to avoid. You can also download the printable GST registration checklist, and confirm the current requirement on gst.gov.in.
The document list for each business type
| Entity | Documents required |
|---|---|
| Proprietorship | PAN and Aadhaar of the proprietor · passport-size photo · proof of principal place of business · bank proof. No DSC required — Aadhaar OTP verification is generally used. |
| Partnership firm | Firm PAN · partnership deed · PAN, Aadhaar and photos of all partners · authorised-signatory letter · place-of-business proof · bank proof. |
| LLP | LLP PAN · Certificate of Incorporation · LLP agreement · PAN, Aadhaar and photos of designated partners · partner authorisation · DSC of the authorised signatory · place-of-business proof · bank proof. |
| Private limited / company | Company PAN · Certificate of Incorporation · MOA and AOA · PAN, Aadhaar and photos of directors · board resolution for authorised signatory · DSC mandatory · place-of-business proof · bank proof. |
The pattern is clear: proprietorships and partnerships are the lightest, while LLPs and companies add their constitution documents and require a digital signature. If you need a DSC for a company or LLP application, we can arrange a Class 3 signature — typically within 24 hours for individual paperless eKYC. For the commercial service itself, see our GST registration page.
Proving your principal place of business
This is the proof that most often needs care. What is accepted depends on whether you own or rent:
- Owned premises: an electricity bill or property tax receipt, generally in the owner's name, showing the address you are registering.
- Rented premises: the rent or lease agreement, plus the owner's no-objection certificate and their ownership proof.
The address must be consistent everywhere
The address on your proof should match what you enter in the application exactly. A shortened or differently worded address is a common reason for an officer to raise a REG-03 query. If you operate from more than one location, additional places of business are declared too.
Bank proof and Aadhaar authentication
Two more elements complete the picture:
- Bank proof. A cancelled cheque, bank statement, or the first page of the passbook showing name, account number and IFSC. Helpfully, bank details are often not mandatory at the initial stage and can be added after registration through a non-core amendment.
- Aadhaar authentication. Authentication of the authorised signatory and at least one promoter or partner is generally required, via OTP-based e-KYC. Some higher-risk applicants are directed to biometric Aadhaar authentication at a GST Suvidha Kendra.
Getting Aadhaar authentication right is what unlocks faster approval — a clean, authenticated, non-flagged application must be acted on within about 7 working days, and a simplified small-taxpayer route can approve in around 3 working days. For where the threshold and compulsory rules sit before you even reach documents, see do I need GST registration?
The document mistakes that cause delays
In our experience since 2017, a handful of avoidable errors account for most registration queries:
- Name mismatches across PAN, Aadhaar and bank records — reconcile them before applying.
- Address that does not match the place-of-business proof word for word.
- Rented premises without the NOC or without the owner's ownership proof.
- Blurred or partial photos of documents where details cannot be read.
- Missing DSC for a company or LLP application.
A day of checking saves a fortnight of queries
Each of these is cheap to fix before filing and expensive to fix after, once an officer has raised a REG-03. The whole point of a document check is to catch these while they are still trivial.
Have us check the set before you file
We verify first, then file — we do not fabricate anything
Our value here is unglamorous but real: we check every document against the entity-specific list, flag any mismatch or gap, and only then file. We are documentation and compliance facilitators — the GSTIN is granted by the department, not by us, and we will never dress up a document to get past a query. If a proof is genuinely missing, we will tell you exactly what to obtain rather than file something that will bounce.
Registration is a fixed ₹499 with no government fee. Send us photos of your documents on WhatsApp and, within office hours, you will usually get a quick verdict on completeness before anything is filed.
If you would rather work from a printable list first, download the GST registration checklist and gather everything at your own pace.
The bottom line
There are two ways forward from here: bookmark this page and handle each step yourself, or send one WhatsApp message and have our team carry it. Either way you now know exactly what should happen — which is how we like our clients: informed.
